The Christmas story is the main piece to the story of Jesus. It is where we learn about Him, His life and what He did for us. The word “gospel” means “good news.” If you look through each gospel book you’ll find some good news about Jesus—how he came into our world as a baby, how his life changed people’s lives forever, how he died on the cross so that we could live with God forever. But there’s also bad news in these stories: The bad news is that we’ve all done things wrong before God (sinned), which makes us unable to live with him anymore! That’s why we need someone who never sinned to pay for our sins so we can go back home with God someday (see Romans 5:12).

We are told that there were several wise men from afar who saw His star in heaven and followed it until they found Him (Matthew 2:1-2). When they arrived at Jerusalem, King Herod asked them where they came from and what sign might confirm their message (Matthew 2:3-4). They replied by telling him that where He would find Christ’s child no one could tell him except for God Himself (Matthew 2:5-6).

2 When Herod the king heard this he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;

3 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

4 And they said unto him. In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet [read Micah 5:2]. “And thou Bethlehem Ephrata art least among all cities…”
