Verses In The Bible About Forgiveness Of Others

Forgiveness is a key part of Christian living. We need to be able to forgive others because we all make mistakes, and those mistakes can leave us feeling hurt and angry. The Bible has many passages that speak about forgiveness, such as this verse from the book of Matthew: Press Tab to write more…

“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much.” (Matthew 26:15)

This article will share some Bible verses about forgiving others so that you can learn how to deal with anger in your own life.

Matthew 5:23-24 ESV

“If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.”

Matthew 5:23-24 ESV

Forgiveness is a process. As we learn from Matthew 5:23-24, forgiveness begins with an awareness of our own sin before God. This awareness leads us first to repentance and confession, which brings about reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ (1 John 1:9). In turn, it also requires reconciliation between ourselves and others as well (James 4:8).

Matthew 6:14-15 ESV

Jesus said, “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15 ESV)

This is a teaching that most people are familiar with. Jesus was clear, forgiveness is a two-way street! You can’t expect God to forgive you unless you’re willing to forgive others who have sinned against Him or hurt or offended you in some way. It’s a matter of grace—God’s mercy and love toward all mankind regardless of whether they embrace Him or reject Him out of ignorance or malice.

It should come as no surprise then that God’s Word also teaches us how important it is for us to extend this same kind of grace and mercy toward those who have sinned against us (Ephesians 4:1-2). If we don’t follow these instructions from God Himself then our relationship with Him won’t grow any closer than it already has been; instead it’ll stay stagnant at best and continue in its downward spiral at worst because there will always be something missing from our lives: forgiveness from one another and from God Himself!

Mark 11:25 ESV

If we don’t forgive others, God won’t forgive us. Although it’s difficult to forgive, we must do so in order to receive forgiveness ourselves.

Matthew 18:21-22 ESV

Jesus said, “Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered him, “I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

This verse is dealing with forgiveness of others. We are being told that we should forgive others as God has forgiven us (Matthew 18:33). This means that we must be willing and able to forgive those who have sinned against us at least as often as God forgives us for our own sins against him.

Luke 23:34 ESV

Jesus said to the thief on the cross next to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” In this passage, Jesus forgave a criminal who did not deserve it. Even as he died for sins he did not commit himself, Jesus showed us that God forgives us even when we don’t deserve it.

Colossians 3:13 ESV

Forgiveness is a choice. We can choose to forgive others, and we can choose not to. Forgiveness is an act of the will, and this means that if you want to be forgiven by God, you must first forgive your neighbor. Forgiveness is also a process; it doesn’t happen overnight or in one day—it takes time for wounds in our hearts to heal completely. Forgiveness involves letting go of bitterness and anger towards those who have hurt us; it involves making peace with them by forgiving them so they can receive the forgiveness they need from God (Ephesians 4:32).

Forgiving someone does not mean forgetting what was done against us; rather, it means choosing not allow the past control our present lives any longer! Forgiving others allows us freedom from bitterness; however, if we don’t forgive others then we are living in bondage ourselves!

Ephesians 4:32 ESV

The Bible is full of verses about forgiveness. If you want to be a good Christian, you should read the following passages:

  • Ephesians 4:32 ESV – “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
  • Colossians 3:13-14 ESV – “Forbearing one another and forgiving each other,” if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
  • Luke 6:37 ESV – “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive [your fellowman], and you will be forgiven.”

Here are some Bible verses to help you forgive others.

The Bible is full of verses that teach us how to forgive others. Here are some examples:

  • Matthew 18:21-35 – “Then Peter came and said to Him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and offend me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times; but up again until seventy times seven.'” What this means is that there’s no limit on how many times you can forgive someone; The Lord has set no number on it! If they hurt you once or one thousand times, if they come back and say they’re sorry every day for a year or even two years later—you can still forgive them!
  • Hebrews 4:14 – “Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens…let us hold fast our confession.” God’s forgiveness isn’t just for Christians who believe in Him—it’s available for everyone all the time. So whether someone who hurt or offended you realizes they’ve done something wrong or doesn’t realize it at all—they need your forgiveness just like anyone else does!

Forgiveness is a choice that you have to make for yourself. Some people have a hard time forgiving others, others find it easy. If you’re having trouble forgiving someone or yourself, remember that God forgave everyone of his sins when he was on the cross dying for our sins!
