Verses In The Bible About Loving Yourself

Verses In The Bible About Loving Yourself

The Bible is full of verses to help you love yourself. Here are some examples:

Matthew 22:39

  • Matthew 22:39

“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

This verse emphasizes the importance of loving others. Jesus says that to love yourself or anyone else, we must first love God with all our heart, mind and strength – which means doing what is right in His sight (1 John 4:11-12). Then we can put out of our minds anything that might cause us to stumble or offend them (Romans 14:13). We should desire their good (1 Corinthians 10:24) because we have been forgiven by God through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Matthew 7:12

It’s a good practice to treat others as you would like to be treated. If you have any hope of receiving love from another, you must first love yourself. Treat yourself with kindness and respect, just as you would someone else. Don’t expect another person to love or respect you if you don’t do the same. You should also treat yourself with gentleness and compassion—just as one would treat a friend in need of comfort.

Luke 6:31

Luke 6:31 says, “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.”

  • This verse shows us that we must love others and treat them with kindness, the same way we would like for them to treat us. It’s not about getting something out of it in return; rather it’s about loving others because God loves us!

1 John 3:1

> Be content with what you have.

> Don’t be envious of others.

> Don’t brag about yourself or be arrogant.

> Don’t act important and put on airs; don’t try to impress people with your importance.

> Instead, it should be obvious to everyone that you are mature (1 Cor 13:11 NLT). This means that you should act like an adult who knows how to control their feelings and not let them rule their lives, even when they are angry at someone else or get upset by something they see going on around them (1 Thess 5:14-15 NLT).

Philippians 2:3

Philippians 2:3 reads, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” I’m not sure how this passage can be interpreted any other way than to say that everyone should love themselves.

I mean, it’s called “Philippians 2:3.” You’ll find the same verse in 1 Timothy 4:12 and Titus 3:7. The same words appear again in 2 Corinthians 12:10; Galatians 6:4; Ephesians 5:29; Colossians 3:23–24; James 4:10–11; and 1 Peter 4:8 (I’m not counting all of them). The Bible is clear about what we should do with our bodies—love yourself!

Proverbs 27:2

Proverbs 27:2 states, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.” This verse is telling us that we must not praise ourselves so much that it becomes an obsession or an idol. We tend to worship the things we love most, which means we need to check our self-love before it gets too out of control!

We should look at this verse as a cautionary tale against vanity—if we do not love ourselves enough but instead are consumed by vanity, then we will lose our relationship with God.

Psalm 139:14

Psalm 139:14:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

God knows you better than anyone else ever could. He loves you with an unfailing love that can never be shaken or damaged by circumstances, people or anything else in the world.

These verses are meant to encourage you to love yourself.

The Bible teaches us that we should love ourselves and others. The following are verses from the Bible that describe how to love yourself, as well as how to love others.

  • Love Yourself

“But above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 (KJV)

“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 (KJV)

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love…” 1 Corinthians 13:1 (ESV)

We hope these verses will help you to love yourself, and that they will be a source of comfort when you are struggling with self-esteem issues. We know that it isn’t easy to love yourself, especially when other people are trying to tear you down or make themselves feel better by putting others down. But as we saw earlier in this post, it is possible for us all—and we believe that your best bet is to look at yourself in the mirror each morning and remind yourself how much God loves you before heading off into the day!
