Short Sermons For Nursing Home Residents

I have been a chaplain for many years now, and I have spoken to many people who find their way into nursing homes. Sometimes they are there because of an accident or illness that has taken away their ability to care for themselves. Other times it is simply the result of old age and waning health. Whatever their circumstances, one thing remains true: We all long for meaning in our lives. As we get older and become less able to fulfill certain roles in society (such as being able-bodied), we begin to seek out ways to give back again.

The four Ls of life are Love, Life, Laughter and learning.

The four Ls of life are Love, Life, Laughter and learning.

Love is a gift that we must share with others.

Life is a gift that we must cherish every moment of everyday.

Laughter is good for your health and it helps you to relax in stressful situations. Learning something new can help you grow as an individual and improve your chances in life

What if we all were not so busy with our own affairs that we could walk around this room and help each other put on our shoes?

We could all find time to help each other.

We can take care of our loved ones by helping with the small things, like putting on their shoes.

Helping others makes them feel better and helps us too.

Life is better when you are helpful.

Your efforts to help others are a blessing and a gift. Helping those who are unable to help themselves shows love, care and concern for those who need it most.

It can be so easy to do nothing or say nothing when we see those in need. It’s easy to look away from someone who may be suffering, but it takes courage and strength of character to look them in the eye and ask how you can help.

Life is better when you are helpful.
