Spiritual Warfare Verses In The Bible

Spiritual Warfare Verses In The Bible

Spiritual warfare is real, and it’s something we all need to be aware of. It’s an aspect of Christianity that isn’t talked about much in mainstream culture, but it’s also an important aspect of our faith that should not be ignored. The Bible offers many verses on spiritual warfare. These are some of my favorites:

Isaiah 54:14-17 (NIV)

So the people who know their God will be strong and do exploits.

Those who know their God will not be afraid or dismayed by anything that happens, for the Lord Almighty is with them.

The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death—to keep them alive in famine.

Our God is near us; he does not leave us alone, (NIV)

Ephesians 6:13-17 (NIV)

  • You are not fighting against people, but against evil powers.
  • Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on God’s whole armor, so that you may be able to stand firm against [your] enemies (Ephesians 6:12-13).
  • The Bible has a lot to say about spiritual warfare. Here are some verses from Ephesians 6:10-18 for example:
  • Stand firm with your feet planted firmly on Christ (v12)
  • Put on God’s whole armor so that you can defend yourself (v13)
  • Take up your shield of faith (v16)
  • Put on salvation as your helmet(v17)

Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

God is your shield and protector. He is the One who keeps you safe from evil and harm. God will keep you safe and secure, just as He did for David when he wrote this psalm after surviving many battles against his enemies.

Here’s a paraphrase of Psalm 23:4: “You are my shield; I rely on you to protect me from my enemies; arise, O Lord! Lift up your hand against those who attack me.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Luke 10:19 (NIV)

“Pray for those who persecute you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do not swear oaths that cannot be fulfilled—only yes or no; anything beyond this comes from evil. You must live in harmony with people of other faiths so that they may know that Christians are law-abiding citizens too! Do as we say and do as we do: love God with all your heart—and mind; love others as much as yourself because God loves us first!”

Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)

  • 5 Do not envy wicked men, do not desire their company;
  • 6 for their hearts plot violence, and their mouths speak lies.
  • 7 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
  • 8 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

1 John 4:1-6 (NIV)

As you read the verses, write down any thoughts or words that come to mind. Try not to analyze the passage too much; just take a few minutes to meditate on it and let God speak to your heart through these words.

Afterward, turn off your music and set aside your Bible for a few minutes while you reflect on what you’ve written.

James 4:7-10 (NIV)

James 4:7-10 (NIV)

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves before the Lord; *he is exalted* in all the earth.”

The Bible offers many verses on spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare is a matter of the heart, and it’s not something that can be learned from reading one book or talking to one person. The Bible offers many verses on spiritual warfare, but these are just words until you put them into practice in your life. If you want to do spiritual warfare effectively and be victorious over sin and the enemy, then you must make sure that you are building yourself up in God’s Word daily (2 Timothy 2:15).

This is why it is so important for Christians to read their Bible every day!

The Bible is a treasure trove of verses for spiritual warfare. The verses above show the many different types of warfare that believers have faced in their lives and how God has helped them triumph over their enemies. These are just some examples, but there are many more passages in Scripture that we can turn to when we are fighting against the forces of darkness as well as our own personal struggles with sin.
