St Francis Of Assisi Prayer For Animals

St Francis Of Assisi Prayer For Animals

One of the most beautiful prayers I know is one that was written by St. Francis of Assisi in 1224. This prayer has been part of my life for many years and has brought me peace, comfort, and healing on many occasions. I hope you find as much joy in this prayer as I have!

Saint Francis of Assisi was known for his deep love and respect for all of God’s creation, particularly animals.

Saint Francis of Assisi was known for his deep love and respect for all of God’s creation, particularly animals. He was a great lover of nature and animals. In one story from 1223, Saint Francis is said to have preached to birds in the town square in order to convince them not to eat meat or harm each other during Lent.

The prayer is believed to come from a sermon he gave in the French village of Rieti on or around 1224, in which he spoke of his desire that animals be able to enter into heaven.

The prayer was not widely known in English until the 19th century, when it was translated by John Mason Neale and included in his popular devotional works.

Following St. Francis’ death in 1226, the prayer became well-known in Italy and other parts of Europe, but it was not widely known in English until the 19th century.

Prayer For Animals By St. Francis Of Assisi

A prayer for animals by St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying that we are born into eternal life. Amen

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury,pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope;where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

Inspire our hearts to give thanks for the world you have given us so abundantly. May we use it wisely and well. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.[[END-STORY]]
