Bible Verses About Putting Others Before Yourself
Bible Verses About Putting Others Before Yourself
Putting others before yourself is not always easy, but it’s something that we all need to do. It’s a test of character and will reveal who you truly are as a person: someone who cares about others or someone who is consumed by selfishness. Here are some Bible verses about putting others before yourself, so you can see how putting others first is integral to being a good Christian!
Philippians 2:3
Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.”
This verse is one of the most important to remember when you’re trying to put others before yourself. It’s a true test of character, and it can help you discover your own strengths and weaknesses. It’s also crucial for happiness and success, because if you’re only focused on yourself at all times, then you won’t be able to reach your full potential as a human being. This verse reminds us that we should never put ourselves first; instead we should think about how we can help others achieve their goals as well as our own. If everyone did this simple thing—putting someone else before themselves—there would be so much more love in this world!
Philippians 2:4
Philippians 2:4 says, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
It’s important to put others before yourself because it’s what God wants. We are told that we should not be selfish or arrogant (see Matthew 20:25). It is important for us to think about others and what they need instead of focusing on ourselves and our own needs. In fact, when we do this it makes God happy because He created humans in His image (Genesis 1:27).
1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7
Romans 12:10
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10).
This verse tells us that we must put others before ourselves and honor them above ourselves. We are to put our faith, hope and love into God, because when we do this, He will give us the strength we need to make it through life with His grace and mercy on our side. When we trust in Him for everything He is able to accomplish great things through us as well!
Hebrews 13:16
As a Christian, you are called to put others before yourself. In Hebrews 13:16, the Bible says:
“Do not be forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
As a child of God and as a follower of Jesus Christ, you are called to treat others with respect and honor them. Here are some ways that you can put other people first in your life:
- Help your friends if they need anything (a ride home from work or school, food at dinner time).
- Be kind to your neighbors and be welcoming when new people come into town (in fact, welcome them so much that they want to stay for years!). You could even go out of your way to help them move in or find jobs in the community.
Galatians 6:2
Galatians 6:2 is a Bible verse about putting others before yourself. It tells us that God loves a cheerful giver, and that we should be happy when we give to others because it brings glory to God. The Bible also says it is more blessed to give than receive, so we should always be willing to help others out when they need it most.
Romans 14:19
Putting others before yourself is a true test of character. In Romans 14:19, Paul tells us to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. This verse tells us that we should respect other people’s choices and also not be judgmental towards them. We must remember that God has given each person their own free will and He has allowed them to make their own decisions. It is not a sin to eat meat or drink wine; in fact, these things were provided by God for our enjoyment! However, it IS sinful when we decide that we are better than someone else because they do not follow the same rules as us.
Mark 10:43-45
Matthew 10:34-35 says, “Do not suppose that I have come to send peace on earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
“The Bible teaches us that we should put others before ourselves because God cares for us and loves us more than anyone else does (1 John 3:16). We must put others before ourselves because Jesus laid down His life for you and me (John 15:13). He died so that we can go to heaven when we die (Romans 5:8). He gave up everything so that we can have everything (Philippians 3:7).
James 4:10
James 4:10 is a great verse that can apply to many situations in life. It reads, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” This verse is about humility and being humble. Being humble is a good thing because it lets God work through your life without interference from you! Humble people are humble about their successes as well as their failures (and they realize there’s no difference between the two).
Humbleness allows us to admit that we need help in areas where we were previously unaware of how deficient we had become—and then God uses that knowledge to improve our lives!
Luke 22:26-27
In Luke 22:26-27, Jesus tells his disciples that he has washed their feet. He says that they should do the same for each other as a symbol of humility and love.
He also says it is a way to serve, honor and show respect.
John 15:13-14
In John 15:13-14, Jesus said to his disciples, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” The message of this passage is clear: you must love others in order to love God.
You want a way to live this out? Here are some practical steps:
- Pray for your fellow believers (1 Timothy 2:1).
- Share your faith with others (Mark 16:15; Colossians 1:28-29).
Putting Others Before Yourself is a true test of character.
There are many ways of putting others before yourself. Some examples are:
- Being a good example to others
- Being a good role model
- Being a good leader
- Being a good follower
A life of service is not easy, but it’s the only way to truly live for Christ. When you put others first, you’re fulfilling God’s plan for your life and showing your love for Him. By putting others before yourself, you will be able to glorify God by living out His Word each day as well as share His message with those around us who need encouragement and hope from someone like us who knows what it means to be blessed by God through this world.
