Anchoring Script For Holy Communion

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. On behalf of the Church, I welcome you all to this Holy Communion service. Before we begin, let us pray. Almighty God and everlasting Father, we have gathered together in your mighty name. You have brought us here to worship you, as your people redeemed by sacrifice of your son Jesus Christ. We thank you for the promise that by his love we are one body in Christ. We pray that our worship may be acceptable in your sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.

My name is __________ and I am the Minister of __________ Church. Tonight we are celebrating Communion, a time when we remember how God has fed us with His very own body and blood in Jesus Christ. We also remember that He has called us to share these gifts with others, especially those who are in need or suffering.

The service begins with an opening hymn which will be led by our choir. Following this we will have a reflection from one of our members about how they are living out the commandment to love their neighbor as themselves. Next there will be prayers for those who have been absent due to illness or other reasons. After this another member will read John 6:51-57 which tells us about Jesus feeding five thousand people on bread alone! The rest of the meal consists only of crackers—that’s all it takes!

Almighty God and everlasting Father, we have gathered together in your mighty name.

Almighty God and everlasting Father, we have gathered together in your mighty name. We rejoice at the presence of your Son, Jesus Christ. To be present with the Lord is to participate in his life-giving sacrifice on our behalf. We thank you for this gift of life and salvation through Jesus Christ our Savior!

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and through him we find salvation in this world and hope for the world to come. We thank you for sending your son to be born in a lowly stable so that he could bring us back into fellowship with you; for his miracles that showed us his power over nature, disease and death; for his sacrifice on the cross that paid our debt to you; and finally for raising him from death so that he might be with us always. We believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, as our redeemer and savior who gave up his life so we might have eternal life with him.

We thank you for the promise that by his love we are one body in Christ.

In this Eucharist, we remember Christ’s death and resurrection. We remember that in his life, he showed us what it means to be a servant and a friend, to share our lives with others as he shared his cup with his disciples on the night before he died. We remember that in his death, he gave up everything so that we would have eternal life with him. And now as he is risen from the dead, we celebrate how God has given us new life through Jesus’ body and blood which were given for us on the cross.

We thank you for sending your Son into our world to save us from sin and make us holy again; through him all things were made so that all creation might praise your glory forever!

We pray that our worship may be acceptable in your sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

We ask you to join us as we give thanks for this meal together, which reminds us of the broken body and spilled blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. We pray that by taking it into ourselves, we may be strengthened in mind and body to do good works for you, O God, who gave your only Son for the salvation of all people. We pray that by eating this bread and drinking this cup at every celebration of Holy Communion throughout eternity, we may experience the fullness of blessing promised by Jesus Christ in his word. May he come again soon in glory!
