DEAR LORD, we thank You for this day You have graciously given us. We thank You for the life of __________, who lived his/her life _____ years.

We ask that You keep him/her close to Your heart, and that You watch over their family and friends as well.

We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen

Dearest Father, Your Son Jesus taught us to pray for others. We know that _________ is now with You and that he is at peace. We pray for ourselves, his loved ones; he was so dear to us. He was our family member/friend, and we will greatly miss him. May we never forget all the good things he has done in his life.

  • Pray for yourself.
  • Pray for loved ones.
  • Pray for family and friends.
  • Pray for peace.
  • Pray for wisdom.
  • Pray for love, courage, strength and forgiveness.
  • Ask God to comfort those who mourn and give them hope during this time of sadness and loss.*

Please help us to be comforted by the knowledge that there is no death with you, only eternal life. We give you thanks for the many beautiful memories of our loved one. Bless us with your peace, wisdom and love now and forever more. Amen.

The prayers for the dead were composed by St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) who was a bishop in Italy and wrote many books on spirituality including The Way of Salvation: A Treatise on Christian Doctrine; The Seven Steps to Mary; On Confession; The Glories of Mary which expounds upon her attributes as mother: her purity (Immaculate Conception), her power (Assumption), her holiness (Prayer to Our Lady).

Through the prayers of our Blessed Mother, we can have a greater trust in God’s providence and be assured that our loved ones are now in His loving care. May this prayer be a source of comfort for all those who mourn the loss of their loved ones.
