The parable of the prodigal son is one of the most famous stories in the Bible. It is also one of my favorites because it teaches us about God’s love for us, even when we’ve made mistakes. The parable shows that everyone deserves a second chance, including ourselves!

The Prodigal Son is a great story about the power of forgiveness and unconditional love, but it’s also a great example of how we need to put our complete faith in Jesus Christ.

The Prodigal Son lived in his father’s house, but he was not really part of the family. He wanted what his brother had—to be a part of the family and all that comes with it: security, acceptance and respect; things that were never given to him while he was growing up in his father’s house. So he decided that he no longer wanted anything to do with his dad or brother (or anyone else). Instead, this man went off on his own so that he could live life on his terms alone.

In doing so, however he threw away any chance at having an eternal relationship with God through believing in Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour…and thinking that somehow money would buy happiness! These days we call people like this “prodigals” because they have wandered away from their faith like sheep without a shepherd (Luke 15:4).

Jesus knew this man had a good heart and was interested in following Him. He took the opportunity to teach him what it truly means to be saved. The rich young ruler failed because he didn’t want to give up his riches, but Jesus has promised that those who come to Him will never be disappointed (John 6:37). When we surrender everything in our lives—even our own children if necessary—and trust Christ alone for salvation, we will receive His free gift of eternal life.
